WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BLAZING DONKEY, SANDWICH
27/05/2011
I started off at the Bell hotel in Sandwich where Selena along with her bridesmaids was getting ready, very much documentary photography just in the background capturing the events of the final preparations. The 24-70mm 2.8 is the perfect lens for this and with some lovely warm natural light coming through the windows the only addition needed on occasions was a reflector. After just over an hour it was off to the Blazing Donkey, which coincidentally is situated in Ham, near Sandwich. Simon the groom looked nervous but was up for having some formal portraits with his ushers and best man. The weather was starting to turn and some very light rain starting to come down, fortunately not enough for the outside ceremony to be disrupted too much. After the couple had tied the knot and a few candids it was on to a selection of group shots, the weather started to deteriorate and I had noticed some lovely old chesterfield sofas in the marquee where the dinner and speeches was going to be held, good setting to continue with the group shots, flash was needed just a s a fill in for these.
After a short break I then had some time with Selena and Simon to cover some informal photos of them, the rain had stopped and with the sun starting to filter through the clouds for a few minutes we had a golden cast on the couple. All of the candids and informal portraits were taken with the 1D III and 70-200mm lens, always have two cameras working together on a wedding just to cover every eventuality Dinner was served just after five and a chance to back up the images as well as grab a drink and some food. Once the speeches had been done the day ended for me with the traditional cake cutting, some nice photos from this as Selena was cutting through the dessert. Off home to back up the images on to the Mac, so with the CF cards three back ups, always best to be on the safe side due to the importance of these images.
