DANCE PHOTOGRAPHY UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOLKESTONE
05/05/2011
The photographs were to take place in the dance studio which had a great combination of lighting set up from ceiling rigs, with one of the lighting techs on hand we were able to position the dancers in the best light available, the flooring had a spotlight which then faded out to a vignette to creat more emphasis on the dancers. I had intended to use a single off camera flash to create some drama and also freeze some of the action but in the end preferred the natural movement. Exposures were a little harder to control so used the trick of gig photography and shot in full manual control with exposures around 1/80th @ F5.6 and just changing the ISO between shots. We did set up some different lighting effects with various hues but for the most part used a clean natural light. One of my favourite photos was the middle shot of the two girls in mid air, with their colours and movement it created a great motion blur moment. Post production was just adjusting the colour balance and some mono conversions to give the client a few options.
