CHRIST CHURCH UNIVERSITY CORPORATE PORTRAITS

03/05/2011
Corporate portraiture for Christ Church University
The first portrait was of Ian swain who had just invented and built a swimming exercise machine, I was a bit limited for space and background so decided to opt for two off camera flash guns to create a moodier photo of the inventor in front of the unit. After some test shots I decided to use just one off camera speed light which designer Nik kindly held just off to camera left at a 45 degree angle pointing up towards the subject, settings were 1/80th of a second, F11 @ ISO 400, flash was on 1/2 power. Next up was Ben Waters who is the mediation clinic head of department, with the bright sun and patterns of cloud it was a good chance to take some outside portraits of Ben, deciding to tackle the sun head on with Ben backlit this was another chance for a speed light to help over power the ambient light and create a fill in effect, settings were 1/80th second, F13 @ ISO 200, this image is to be used for a double page spread with a text overlay hence the addition of the empty space on the left of image. Next up two more portraits, both landscape and both using natural light, Paul was at Augustine House which with its large expanse of glass is superb for natural light flooding in, slightly tighter crop on the subject to give a bit more impact. lastly was Masi Noor who is a lecturer in social sciences, we used an old garage door as the backdrop, this worked really well with Nasi's dark brown jacket and blue shirt.
