AUTO ITALIA AT BROOKLANDS

30/04/2011
A wealth of Italian automobile history during Auto Italia, plus the Silver arrows Merceds display team
When you think of Italian cars Ferrari, Alfa's and Lamborghini's spring to mind so it was nice to see Fiat 500's, Punto's and even a Fiat Multipla attending, seeing this go up test hill after a Lamborghini Super Leggara showed a glimpse of the day and the fun behind it. After seeing a variety of super cars park in the paddock area it was time to get a variety of people shots, these are always great for the venue for publicity as they show a diversity in age ranges and also how busy the whole event was. After a drivers briefing at 11am it was off to the Mercedes World track to go track side to capture some of the sixty selected cars go around the circuit, the Alfa 8C, F40, Enzo and original California were a joy to see. The session ended with the Mercedes Silver Arrows in CL63 AMG's drifting in unison around the skid pan, amazing driving and a great end to the parade laps.

After lunch the day ended with a variety of cars going up test hill, which you have to walk up it to appreciate just how steep it is. A good opportunity to get some crowd shots and also some various angles of the cars approaching the hill. I used to cameras during the day for ease of use, one with the 70-200mm attached and the other with the 17-40mm which covered all of the wide angle photos. It was good to meet up again also with Stephen, Gareth, Antonello and Chris who had attended my car photography courses at Brooklands earlier in the year. After a well deserved rest it was time to head back home, great to be stuck in traffic with Ferrari's and Alfa's plus a gorgeous Mercedes 190 as well. Once the edit is done Brooklands will use the photographs for internal and external use where they will be sent to a host of car magazines and other publications.
