BMW i3 CAR PHOTOGRAPHY BROAD OAK BMW KENT
19/12/2013
The car looks great in the flesh, a spacious cabin with eucalyptus wood inserts on the model I drove, the finish in Ionic silver metallic paint gave a nice contrast against the black frame of the car. A sunny winters morning as well provided some great lighting to photograph the car around Canterbury City centre. The car has an amazing turning circle, and with the addition of the on board rear camera makes it one of the easiest cars I have ever driven to park and manoeuvre around narrow streets and rush hour traffic. The amazing things with this car is that for an electric car it is quick, in fact it would put the majority of hot hatches to shame. The car will do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds and amazingly 0-30 in 3.7 seconds as the electric motor does not provide any lag unlike a petrol engine. The car will do around 100 miles on a full charge and with the optional range extender just under 200 miles.
The interior of the BMW i3 features the use of natural, sustainable materials, including KENAF fibres in the door panels. This fast-growing member of the cotton family is particularly sustainable. With a characteristic fibre structure, which remains visible after processing, it quietly emphasises the premium nature of BMW i. The designers have also developed a completely naturally-tanned leather, using olive leaves, that offers the outstanding quality and feel you expect from BMW.
The car to photograph was to my surprise ideal with the 17-40mm lens, being a boxy design the wide angle of the lens emthasised its curves well from any angle, especially the front. I took some images against the sun using a single off camera speed lite to light the shadow areas, this lit up the wheels and glass areas nicely, the flash was on low power so it didn't throw too much light on the car. If you are looking for a solid, safe, eco and fun car to drive then this would be on the top of my list, great space inside and comfortable throughout.
