ROTARY SLEEP OUT CHARITY EVENT

20/09/2013
I had been asked to cover an hour just to capture some of the speeches and general images around the grounds, I arrived at 7pm just as the light was starting to fade, seemed an ideal time to test the 1DX's ISO performance! Usually in these circumstances flash or tripod would have been essential, but having looked at the files in daylight conditions of up to 25000 I was confident that the 1DX could cope at night, even though noise would be more significant due to the darker shaded areas.

Over fifty tents were set up for the participants to reside in over night, fortunately the weather had been kind after recent evenings with heavy rain. Their was a great vibe around the site and with a steel band playing, hot drinks being served and knowing that already the group had raised over £20,000 for Porchlight and Catching Lives charities the whole event had been a great achievement and success thanks to the hard work of the Canterbury Sunrise Club and other volunteers.

The camera covered all that I needed with just the natural light, the only think that you miss when pushing the ISO up to cope in these conditions is the smaller apertures to capture sharp detail all the way through, f4-5.6 at ISO 10000 gave me usable shutter speeds and more importantly allowed the people in the shot to be sharp, slower shutter speeds would have created too much blur. London Fashion Weekend tomorrow which will be full of fats paced action, another test for the cameras much raved about auto focusing system.
