THE FULL MONTE DAY 4 LAKE COMO & MONTE CARLO
26/08/2011
We headed down the twisting mountain pass from St Moritz deleciataely as the rain and temperature of 2 degrees made for some precarious driving conditions, a 1970’s Porsche 911 was already a casualty as it had embedded its bonnet in one of the safety barriers. Once we came in to Italy the weather deteriorated and a hailstorm greeted us just 30 miles from Como, even the care free Italians were pulling over to stop as the visibility was more challenging then the Alpine passes from the last couple of days. Fortunately Como was bathed in glorious sunshine and temperatures in the mid 30’s. A quick stop off and perusal around town with lunch on the lake was welcomed from our recent journey.
Once back on the road the weather stayed with us all the way to Monte Carlo, the twisting roads down to this millionaires playground was just as breathtaking as it was last year, you can never tire of the look and sound of super cars looping around Casino Square and the grand prix circuit. The Monte Carlo Bay Hotel is stunning and driving in to the under ground car park is a showroom of super cars from the last fifty years, millions of pounds in just a few bays. We ate at the Trattoria rooftop terraced restaurant which is championed by Michelin star chef Alan Ducase, apart from a questionable plate of Risoto it was a good evening and a chance for everybody to unwind as tomorrow we could all take in the facilities and sights of Monte. Also happy birthday to Clive Emson, as it tied in with a private function which Prince Albert was hosting at our hotel, and a display of fireworks were on cue for us to wish Clive our regards.
