THE FULL MONTE DAY 2

25/08/2011
Ferrari F430 and scenes of Germany, including Schlob in Heidelberg
After lunch we took a detour up to Schlob (prenounced Schloss) where the castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps. The castle has only been partially rebuilt since its demolition in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is located 80 metres up the northern part of the Königstuhl hillside, and thereby dominates the view of the old downtown. The present structures had been expanded by 1650, before damage by later wars and fires. In 1764, another lightning-bolt destroyed some rebuilt sections. It was a stunning piece of architecture in its ruined state and gave us some great location shots from the day. Once we had done some photographs of the castle and purchased some souvenir postcards (!!) we then set off up through Schloss towards our next stop, the Wald and Sclosshotel in Friedrichsruhe which is a hunting lodge and sits in some expansive and beautiful grounds. The greeting and service from the staff was as expected, superb and after a warm welcome we unpacked and got ready for an outstanding meal and great company. I covered some exterior dusk images of the lodge in between courses and finished off todays shoot with a few photos at midnight of the buildings, a thunder storm was threatening but never quite materialised. Tomorrow a mammoth journey in to Switzerland where the Badrutt's hotel on St Moritz would await us.
