SELF PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPH
16/01/2011
One of my weekly traditions is to clean the cars, I had an idea of me doing an unrelated photography task would not only be a good image for the 365 Canterbury day in the life project but also an opportunity for a self portrait with a difference! Camera was set on the tripod with the 17mm-40mm lens open at its widest setting, this would get all of the car and if I framed it right me looking in to the camera. Turns out the third image was the winning shot, 580 speedlight was set off camera to the left of the vehicle on the ground with camera settings at 1/100th sec @ F9.0 ISO 200 (self timer 10 secs) and the flash on full power, as it was low down on the ground, whether my stupid grin works or not is a matter of opinion, but at least i'm not looking deadly serious and pretentious. (Have to add that my fleece is very baggy!) The edited image was just lightened in the shadow areas and a high pass filter technique was added just to give the image a little grit.
