CANTERBURY RUGBY CLUB SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY KENT

07/12/2013
The most convincing performance of Canterbury's season kept their promotion hopes on track as they claimed a bonus point victory which moved them back into fourth place. A try eight minutes from the end of an absorbing game saw the city side home, but with three players sin binned in the final quarter they had to scrap every inch of the way to hold off Amptill's attacks.

Tongan international Number Eight Maama Molitika was the real target for Canterbury as his sheer strength and presence was always going to pose a threat, he always seemed to be in the heart of the action and made a visual point for me during the afternoons photography. I have used a mix of different combinations over the last couple of months and decided to use the 300mm with the full frame 1DX today, no converters just 300mm and utilising the F4 lens to its full potential. Without the converter the combination seemed even faster and produced pin sharp shots every time, the light was poor so I had to push up to ISO 1600-2000 to give me fast enough shutter speeds of around !/400th of a second at F4, ideally I would have liked faster speeds but sometimes that little bit of movement can add to the final image. The determination from the players really showed in the photos and was the best game to photograph as it was such a close game.
