FOOTBALL PHOTOGRAPHY EAST KENT COLLEGE
20/10/2013
I haven't covered much sports photography this year due to other commitments so I was looking forward to an afternoon of football to capture for East Kent College whose team were riding high in the Division two East with six straight wins. The 1D4, 70-200mm were on hand with the 1.4 converter attached as well, along with the cameras cropped sensor of 1.3 this would give me the equivalent of a 140-420mm lens (approx). The afternoon rain wasn't going away so it was a case of getting comfortable for the game wrapping up warm and capturing the action.
The key to capturing good sports imagery is to keep your eye looking through the viewfinder for the whole game, otherwise in a split second you could miss some great action opportunities. With the overcast weather and rain ISO 800 was a necessity as I wanted to be using shutter speeds of 1/250 plus as a minimum, shutter priority was set along with high speed burst to capture the players in full flow. The game ended up with a 4-3 victory to East Kent College who are now unbeaten with seven wins and twenty one points and are now nine points clear of their nearest rivals.
