RM AUCTIONS CAR PHOTOGRAPHY TRAINING

04/07/2011
Car photography training in London for RM auctions
The training took place in Kensington where the company have a flat as well as an under ground parking facility. I had initially put the training programme together to cover the basics of photography and used various car images that I had taken over the last year to show the different settings available to the staff on their Canon DSLR's. Once we had covered the basics it was rime to start taking some photos, I was expecting a 70's Porsche as the model, but instead out came a '68 350 GTO Ford Mustang, one of my all time favourite cars! The majority of the photos that will be taken by the RM staff are the traditional front and 3/4 views of the car from the front and rear angles, with the car being white and with a mix of shade and bright sunlight it proved a good test for everybody. We also covered some detail shots which could be used if the vehicle has more then one page dedicated to it in the brochures that are sent out. We finished off the session by doing a few off camera flash set ups and some long exposures in the under ground garage, mainly to show the difference between artificial light and using what you have available with out any extras. The feedback from the RM staff was good, and by using different techniques and viewpoints everybody came away with a more positive approach for their car photography.
