HOCKEY PHOTOGRAPHY ST EDMUND'S SCHOOL

20/01/2011
Sports photography at St Edmund's School
The photography today had two areas to cover, one was for the website and various other marketing materials that the school will the use the sports photography for, and the other area was for a new hockey pitch that the school is campaigning to get funds for at the schools grounds in Canterbury, Kent. The majority of the images were of the match plus a few portraits of the coach and captain of the team. I had also been asked to isolate some players so that these could be used to highlight the kit, hence the image to the right which shows the back of one player and in the background a player in action. Settings on the 1D MK3 were shutter priority at 1/250 and apertures around 5.6-7.1 (ISO 400), giving some nice sharp detail and with the shutter speed relatively slow for action photography some blur came in to the images giving the sense of movement.
