Mazda MX 5 is the base for the 124 and its underpinnings and classic have been tweaked along with a chunkier and more classic styling, the Japanese version is a more sharper edged proposition. The engine is also pure Italian, a 1.4-litre turbocharged MultiAir petrol engine from the 500 Abarth with 138 Bhp also makes it quick Dee then the MX5. The new two-seater sports car starts at £19,545, which is around £1,100 more than its Mazda MX-5 counterpart. Three trim levels are available: Classic, Lusso and Lusso Plus. The 124 spider that I was photographing today was somewhat of a rarity, the 50th anniversary edition which has only been produced 124 times. Full of spec which includes all of the spec you would find in a top of the range limo, also the metallic red paintwork really sets the car off, especially against the backdrop of the docks in Dover, Kent.

The photo shoot at Dover docks took place on a sunny morning, with plenty of cloud cover it was very much a case of timing and also changing the settings on the Profoto B1 flash to accommodate bright and diffused light. Space was limited in terms of width so I used a mixture of telephoto zoom and the flexible 14-24mm wide lenses. Also on the limited edition is a plaque to commemorate the 50th anniversary edition of the FIAT 124 Spider.
