LECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY SIDNEY COOPER GALLERY CANTERBURY

Gillian Wolfe CBE was the speaker and her subject for the lecture was titled "what is the function of a fine art museum?" Recently there has been much debate about the social role of the museum to fulfil its charitable purpose. What is that charitable purpose, apart from opening the doors to the public and conserving the collections? The talk will drew on both the origins of the museum in the UK and current multi-award winning programmes that rearticulate the purpose of a museum as a caring community, where people from every walk of life can find meaning.

I know the gallery well and it is a bright and vibrant place, always full of diverse and original artwork, a great backdrop to cover the guests chatting before the main event. Two cameras as usual paired with the 24-70mm wide zoom and the compact 105mm macro prime lens, perfect for candids and photos of Gillian whilst she was giving her lecture to a packed out audience.
