MORGAN DRIVERS PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT

Trading since 1993, Ardula cover all of Kent and East Sussex as well as the borders of South East London and Surrey. The company is a Sand, Gravel, Topsoil and Muck Away Waste Disposal business based near Maidstone, Kent. They supply sand, ballast, shingle, natural aggregates, recycled aggregates, topsoil, compost, bark and equestrian arena materials. There huge range of tipper lorries are based primarily at the Maidstone site and were to provide the backdrop for the photos of Martin and his Morgan Plus Four, looking resplendent in British Racing Green.

I met Morgan owner Martin when he attended one of my Digital SLR photography courses at Brand Hatch Morgan, the project was in the early stages then and when he mentioned his company with a fleet of trucks I knew that the backdrop and scale of these vehicles against the Morgan would provide a great addition to the projects portraits.

The morning was damp and very overcast, the intermittent rain showers didn't help either. Fortunately the Profoto B1 flash provides enough power to light up large areas, and with Martin in various poses against his Morgan Plus Four sports car and the 24-70mm lens at a variety of focal lengths the end results were full of colour and drama. The next two portraits are already set up and locations include Brooklands Museums test hill and a ship yard.
